Travelling route
Monschau often hosts activities on and around the market square, making the town centre traffic free. If this is the case, you can only access Mühlenberg through the Kierberg road. You can check the calendar via this link. Keep in mind that in Germany snow tires are obligated during wintry weather!
Normal travelling route (from Brussels, E40)
- Follow the E40 in the direction of Liege, then Aken - Verviers and take the exit Eupen (N67).
- Follow the road to Monschau. At the border (Mutzenich), stay on the L214 to Monschau.
- At the next roundabout in Monschau, take the second exit (= Laufenstrasse) and follow the street all the way down.
- Now, take the brick road (= still the Laufenstrasse) left of the parking lot.
- Keep going down via the small and tortuous brick road, past the Red House until you’re obligated to turn left (= Rurstrasse).
- Take this Rurstrasse down to the market square, then take the upward street to the right of Café Caulard. This is Unterer Mühlenberg. A little further up this road, you’ll find Mühlenberg (number 23).
Normal travelling route (from Aken, E40)
- Exit: Lichtenbusch - Monschau. Take a left to Monschau (B258) past Roetgen, and at the roundabout in Imgenbroich, take the second exit to Monschau (258/399).
- At the next roundabout in Monschau, take the third exit (= Laufenstrasse) and follow the street all the way down.
- From here on, you can follow the above steps, starting at step 4.
Alternative travelling route
- If you come in from Eupen, follow the straight road to Monschau through the High Fens and past the German town of Mutzenich, until you reach a roundabout.
- At this roundabout, take the first exit (= Burgring) and follow the road down. At this point, don’t follow the signs to Monschau and its parkings.
- The way down gets very wide before it goes up again. At the top, on your left side above a hedge, there’s a billboard of Hotel Aquarium. Take a left there (Alter Weg).
- Follow this road past Heidgen, Grindel, Kierberg and finally Unterer Mühlenberg, where you’ll find the guest house (number 23).
