  • Christmas Market: The main attraction of Monschau (besides the amazing nature and idyllic alleys) is the Christmas market. Celebrate the end of the year in fairy-like coziness that will get you all warmed up.

  • The Red House: This famous 18th century Baroque residence belonged to a noble family of tailors, whose creations were worn by French kings and Turkish sultans, among others. Now this iconic Monschau building is a perfectly preserved window to the past, and well worth a visit.
  • City Train: Why explore the town on foot when you have the opportunity to use the city train to discover Monschau and its history? The round trip takes about 30 minutes and culminates at the castle, from where you have a wonderful view of the city and the Hallerruine.
  • Erlebnismuseum: Learn about local (and international) animal life at this museum packed with stuffed animals.
  • Glassworks: See authentic glassblowers at work or visit their store to buy their made works. You can also blow glass yourself!

  • Eifelsteig: (through Monschau) The Eifelsteig is the most famous hiking trail of the Eifel region. As many as 313 km of hiking trails, divided into 15 stages, will take you past rocks, water, dams, castles, etc….
  • Vennbahn: (through Monschau) For cycling enthusiasts, there is the Vennbahn: a 125 km cycling route that goes through Belgium, Germany (Monschau) and Luxembourg.
  • Eifel National Park: (10 km from Monschau) This piece of untouched nature covers an area of 110 km². You’ll encounter rare animal species (such as the regional Eifel tiger cat and black stork), can brave challenging hiking trails or take a stroll in nature.
  • Rursee: (15 km from Monschau) The Rursee is Germany’s largest artificial lake, and is ideal for hikers who hate hills, nature lovers and hobby fishermen (subject to the necessary permits). Take a tour in a boat and enjoy the beautiful scenery.
  • Vogelsang: (25 km from Monschau) This former army base now serves as a center point in the Eifel Nature Park, and also serves as a star park: you can feel free to visit at night to admire the open starry sky and galaxy.
  • Wildlife and bird park Hellenthal: (20 km from Monschau) Hellenthal’s wildlife and bird park is an animal park with bird shows and a guided train to take you through the park.
  • Stargazing: The Eifel region is one of the darkest places on Earth at night, perfect for stargazing! Visit the website for locations and schedules.
  • Spa-Francorchamps: (34 km from Monschau) Racing fans will undoubtedly want to see the iconic Belgian racing circuit of Spa Francorchamps. Visit their website for their calendar of activities.

Growling stomachs can be filled in Grunenthal, Haus FloraMon-Bistro or Zum Haller right across from Mon Bistro (we strongly recommend reserving a table in advance). The menus of our favorite restaurants can be found in the dining room drawers or on their websites. For oven-fresh, artisan bread, we recommend Hensch recommend.

At Alphons Vijgen Handtaschen you can discover a wide range of (hand) bags. You can buy traditional Monschau mustard at Senfmuehle in many varieties. Kunterburg is a fantastic baby and children’s store with workshops. Candy and music boxes can be found at Sweets & Music and for shopping you can go to Birgits Lädchen.
